Bioinformatics in skin research, 28 JULY 2013 – 1 AUGUST 2014, HELSINKI

The 5TH EADV/ESDR Summer School is an exciting joint venture between the EADV and ESDR to support research and education across European dermatology. The four previous meetings in Vienna, Rome, Rotterdam and Cologne were a great success with excellent feedback
from the participants.

The course is primarily aimed at dermatology residents/trainees who have an interest in research, but who have not yet undertaken a substantial project themselves.  In 2014, the focus will be on bioinformatics. The programme has been designed to offer “hands-on” experience complemented by talks, explaining the “theory” and application to dermatology and skin disease. The course is divided into interactive lectures and practical workshops, and Journal Club sessions that the students will present papers or a brief summary of their research relevant to bioinformatics. In addition, the participating students will be provided with materials from the course collated on a data stick or abstract book, and, additionally, for those bringing their own suitable laptop, all software to work on during workshop and later to bring back to own workplace. Information on laptops will be sent after acceptance to course.

More information on the programme can be found at: http://www.eadv.org/fostering-courses/current-residents-courses/summer-school-bioinformatics-for-skin-research/

The EADV/ESDR will cover reasonable travel costs up to EUR 400 for EADV/ESDR members as well as coffee breaks, lunches and one social evening event for all participants. Non-members of the societies must pay their own travel costs. In addition to an introduction to research, one objective of the EADV–ESDR fostering programme is to enable young colleagues to interact with European researchers active in the field and to form an international network of peers. The social interactive aspect of this course is crucial to the long-term benefits for the future of European clinical and scientific dermatology.
